Welcome to the "Resources for Healthy Living" Calendar, your complete reference guide to the wellness programs, classes and support groups available through Resurrection Health Care. Please note that registration is required for most activities.

Arthritis


Arthritis Coping and Education

Arthritis Coping and Education is a free self-help group for people living with arthritis and is endorsed by the Arthritis Foundation. The group offers opportunities to share common problems and learn new ways to cope. Speakers have presented various related topics such as the types of arthritis, dealing with depression and the importance of good nutrition. Meetings also provide low-impact exercise sessions. Meetings are held the third Thursday of each month from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Centennial Conference Center B on the seventh floor of the hospital. No registration is required. Cancer


Toll-Free Cancer Support Hotline1-877-RES-HOPE (737-4673)

If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with cancer, we have a telephone support network of current patients, cancer survivors and our own caring, professional staff. They will answer your questions and offer an empathetic ear when you call. Fear and anxiety often accompany a diagnosis of cancer; let us help by taking your call. All calls are completely confidential.

Call 1-877-737-4673, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

If you are a cancer survivor and would like to become a Cancer Support Hotline Volunteer, call the Cancer Center at 773-792-5116.


Diabetes


Diabetes Support Group

Diabetes Support Group is primarily for middle-aged and senior persons with Type 2 diabetes. This interactive support group, facilitated by a certified diabetes educator, provides participants with information about how to more effectively control blood glucose levels. Participants are encouraged to share their feelings and coping strategies. Free sessions are held the first Tuesday of each month from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Community Education Classroom on the second floor of the hospital. No registration is required. Drug and Alcohol


Addiction Education Program

In a series of free, monthly seminars, family members who are coping with the addictive behavior of a loved one learn strategies for managing and coping. Participants in the Addiction Education Program meet the third Tuesday of each month in the 7th floor Sister Jerome Room from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. If you have questions, call 773-794-8486.


Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)

Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.) is a voluntary, worldwide fellowship of men and women from all walks of life who meet together to attain and maintain sobriety. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership. A.A. meets every Sunday in the lower-level Café Meeting Room from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. If you have questions, call 773-794-8486.


Families Anonymous

Families Anonymous is for relatives and friends concerned about the use of drugs, alcohol or related behavioral problems of their children. Families Anonymous meets every Monday in the lower-level Café Meeting room from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. There is no fee. If you have questions, call 773-794-8486.


Epilepsy


Epilepsy Support Group

The Epilepsy Support Group is for persons with epilepsy and their families. In this free, self-help group, participants share information and offer each other social and psychological support. The Epilepsy Support Group meets the first Wednesday of the month in the 7th floor Sister Jerome Room from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. If you have questions, call 773-794-8486.


Fitness and Weight Management


Weight Watchers

Weight Watchers offers coaching and real-life insights to help individuals lose weight and keep it off. Weight Watchers meets every Monday in the 7th floor Centennial Conference Center A from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. There is a membership fee. If you have questions, call 773-794-8486.


Programs for Active 55+


Healthy Aging Program

Members of the free Healthy Aging Program enjoy a range of health-orientated activities and seminar designed to educate and motivate those 55 and older to feel their best. Programs include health and education presentations, low-impact exercise and informal socializing. Programs are held the second Friday of each month in the 7th floor Centennial Conference Center A from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. If you have questions, call 877-737-4636.
